Yesterday evening, we welcomed a curious audience to our event Sound Making Space Presents: Opera in Edwardian Baths - more information to follow, as we have a series of other announcements to make in the coming months, but for now, here are some sounds and details of what we got up to..!
Opera company _Underscore (Leanne Vandenbussche and Rosalind Parker) with Emma-Kate Matthews (UCL), Pedro Novo (Max Fordham Acoustics) and Richard Gott in conversation on the topic of their site-specific opera "Drowning the Innocence" which will take place at Birmingham's Moseley Road Edwardian Bathhouse later this year. The team's creative process pioneers an acoustically-led approach to scenography and dramaturgy.
The team will present their process for understanding the unique acoustic properties of the space, comparing acoustic analysis techniques alongside results from public workshopping in the space.
Pedro Novo and Tin Oberman (UCL) will also be running an ambisonic demonstration in UCL Here East's Sound Lab (adjacent to the main auditorium), so that you can experience the sound of the space at Moseley Road baths.
18:30 - presentations from _Underscore, Pedro Novo and Emma-Kate Matthews
18:45 - panel discussion and Q+A
19:15 - ambisonic demo in the Here East sound lab
Supported by the Arts Council England.
