So after a frustrating day trying to find a quiet room in the Bartlett, I started to test the acoustic performance of the waffle… It isn’t behaving how I expected, but I discovered something much more interesting… The rectangular chambers created behind the skin seem to act as reverb chambers for low frequencies (especially between 220 and 880HZ – high frequencies seem to make no difference)… And where the skin has come away from the frame in places (damage which occurred due to someone not being careful when they moved it – ahem…) it resonates like a drum skin and sings back to me!!! Wow… A day full of happy accidents… Playtime has begun!! Sound samples coming soon…
